Suitable for nurses or other clinicians who come into contact with people who have hypertension or chronic kidney disease. -
Asthma & COPD Update
This new one day practical update is designed to provide health professionals with a comprehensive overview of the management of both areas and new information around guidance, management and treatments. The day is suitable for all health professionals working with respiratory patients and who have a vital role to play in implementing the new BTS/SIGN evidence based guideline for asthma. - Asthma for Community Staff
Commissioned by Leicester City Council for their Adult Social Care Team - providing understanding of what makes clients breathless, an overview of the treatments they might be taking, practical demos of inhalers and when they should call in the emergency services.
- Atrial Fibrillation
The publication of chapter 8 of the National Service framework for coronary heart disease (DH, 2005) and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines (NICE,2006) have highlighted the importance of individualized case management in the treatment of AF. This one day course will give an overview of AF and an understanding of how to identify at risk patients.
- CVD for Social Care Staff
Commissioned by Leicester City Council for their Adult Social Care Team, alongside the Asthma/Breathlessness course, both of which were very successful as half day courses, a new course has been developed for Jan 09 - providing more understanding of how they can help their clients, an overview of CVD and what the disease is, who is at risk, impact on the carers and interface with healthcare.
- CVD - Which Drugs and When?
This interactive workshop, led by practicing clinicians with experience in prescribing, will remind you of what the drugs are, how they work, the risks, benefits and side effects and the challenges of prescribing for the increasing number of patients with co-morbidities.
- Tackling CVD Risk
In 2008 the Department of Health announced an NHS health check for all adults aged 40 to 74 years, with the aim of identifying those who are at high risk of developing CVD. As more patients are identified as being at high risk, there is a need to develop the skills of healthcare workers to support them in changing their behaviour. This course will give you the knowledge and skills to support patients who have been indentified as being at risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
- Diabesity
Developed for prison nurses in Leicester in July 08 after it was noted an increase in the number of inmates with diabetes. To provide staff with more understanding and insight of the impact of the disease from a patient perspective but also to develop practical skills.
- Essentials of Asthma
This one day course provides an introduction and overview of asthma management in the primary health care setting. It is suitable for any health care professional who is involves in any aspect of asthma care.
- Hypertension in Practice
This course gives information and practical skills on how to record blood pressure accurately and the essentials of management patients. It is ideal for those new to primary healthcare nursing, acts as an introduction to our diploma level course and is suitable for all staff employed in the community and practice setting. It can also be delivered at a more advanced level for those who are more experienced and want to focus on the prescribing aspects of hypertension management.
- Paediatric Asthma
This one day basic course is designed as an introduction to paediatric asthma and is suitable for all healthcare professionals working with children who suffer from asthma, such as health visitors, school nurses and new practice nurses.
- Pulmonary Rehabilitation
The new COPD National service framework will ensure this effective intervention continues to be an important element of COPD patient care. This course is suitable for all healthcare professionals working with patients on PR programmes such as Physiotherapy assistants, Health Care Associates, exercise physiologists and new nurses to respiratory.
- Reading & Understanding Research Papers
This basic course was designed to provide basic skills in finding, reading and interpreting research papers and is suitable for all healthcare professionals and any one involved or with an interest in reading research.
- Understanding Respiratory Drugs
