Why is Hypertension important?

Studying for Education for Health’s Hypertension module will enable you to confidently screen, identify and effectively manage patients with hypertension.

This module covers the following areas:

  • Epidemiology of hypertension
  • Pathophysiology of hypertension
  • Identification of modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors
  • Measuring blood pressure
  • Screening, diagnosis and long term management ofpatients with   hypertension  Investigations
  • Non-pharmacological and pharmacological management of hypertension
  • National and local policy guidelines

By the end of the module you will be able to:

  • Discuss the impact of hypertension
  • Understand the causesand impact of poor blood pressure control
  • Identify thoseat risk of hypertension andunderstand the significance of screening, detection and management of hypertension in reducing co-morbidity and mortality
  • Evaluate the various methods of measuring blood pressure, taking into account the practical implications
  • Discuss appropriate ways of empowering and supporting patients and other healthcare colleagues on the principalaspectsofmanaging hypertension
  • Evaluate and apply relevant current guidelines, protocols and quality indicators relating to managing hypertension and organising care, in a clinical setting.

This module will take 4 months to complete and is delivered through comprehensive study materials.
