This module covers the following areas:
- Epidemiology of hypertension
- Pathophysiology of hypertension
- Identification of modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors
- Measuring blood pressure
- Screening, diagnosis and long term management ofpatients with hypertension Investigations
- Non-pharmacological and pharmacological management of hypertension
- National and local policy guidelines
By the end of the module you will be able to:
- Discuss the impact of hypertension
- Understand the causesand impact of poor blood pressure control
- Identify thoseat risk of hypertension andunderstand the significance of screening, detection and management of hypertension in reducing co-morbidity and mortality
- Evaluate the various methods of measuring blood pressure, taking into account the practical implications
- Discuss appropriate ways of empowering and supporting patients and other healthcare colleagues on the principalaspectsofmanaging hypertension
- Evaluate and apply relevant current guidelines, protocols and quality indicators relating to managing hypertension and organising care, in a clinical setting.
This module will take 4 months to complete and is delivered through comprehensive study materials.
