The Education for Health Charitable Fund

Our charitable fund provides you with ways to have a direct impact on the lives of people with long term conditions. Find out more about long term conditions...

With your support we are able to:

  1. Provide an educational bursary to support course fees for health professionals such as; nurses, doctors, pharmacists and physiotherapists to improve the care they give to patients. Our bursaries are targeted to health professionals working in areas of social or economic deprivation either in the UK or overseas, where health needs are the greatest
  2. Expand the evidence base for the delivery of chronic disease management by investing in research
  3. Develop accessible web based educational resources for health professionals who have difficulty accessing traditional educational programmes
  4. Help us to help other people by donating our time and experience to those in greatest need in particular in developing countries.

About Long Term Conditions

In the UK there are over 17 million people living with a long term condition such as asthma, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart failure. As we live longer the numbers will rise; it has been estimated that by 2025 about half the population will be living with at least one long term condition. These conditions are not curable but with appropriate early diagnosis, interventions and education many people can be helped to live full and active lives despite their conditions.

We at Education for Health believe that health professional education is fundamental to improving the lives of people with long term conditions. Health care is dynamic and changing, therefore doctors, nurses and other health professionals need to be kept up to date, in order to provide the best possible care to their patients. This is where we at Education for Health step in.

Impact of Sponsoring Education

Our education improves the quality of lives of patients living with long term conditions; a recent study by Sheik et al (2007) demonstrated that patients suffering rhinitis who saw a primary care health professional trained in allergy management had significant improvements in their quality of life.

Impact of Investing in Research

In order to deliver the best possible care to patients with long-term conditions, clinicians should base their practice on clinical knowledge supported by good research evidence, when possible. We therefore conduct studies that answer clinical questions poised by our students and Clinical Leads, for which research evidence is not available (details of which are shown on our Research page).

Although we seek external funding for our studies, these are often not available. In such cases we try to fund the research ourselves. However, a national survey can cost over £40,000, and clinical trials are even more costly.  Your sponsorship will enable us to conduct studies that will improve patient care; by including this new evidence in our training materials, and disseminating findings to health professionals via journals and conferences.

How to make a Donation donate_button_green2

EFFECTIVE:
The most effective way for you to make a real difference to patients’ lives is by investing in the education of the health professionals who care for them.

In the UK, a practice nurse, working in an average sized practice and running a respiratory service has the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of hundreds of patients a year. Your financial support might fund her to develop her knowledge to make a difference to 50 times that number once she knows how to develop an entire respiratory service for her Primary Care Trust.

EASY:
The easiest way for you to make a difference is to support us with a financial donation. Your money will be dedicated to helping us to achieve our mission of making a real difference to patients’ lives.
It's easy to make a single or monthly donation with a credit or debit card online.

EFFICIENT:
One of the most efficient ways to make your donation is online, but we are happy to receive your donation by whichever method you find the easiest.

SECURE:
We've teamed up with Justgiving.com, the UK's leading online fundraising website, so you can donate and raise funds for us online safe in the knowledge that the site is 100% secure.

Online
You can make secure online donations by credit or debit card, either on a one-off or regular basis, using our online JustGiving.com service.

How you can make your donation tax effective
There are a range of tax-efficient giving methods available for UK taxpayers making gifts to UK charities, which can add value to your donation to us at no cost to you. Depending on the type of gift you make, you may have to make a claim to receive tax relief (either on your Self Assessment tax return or by writing to your own tax office).

Gift Aidgift_aid_logo
If you are a taxpayer in the UK, you can make a donation under the Gift Aid scheme. Your donation can be large or small, regular or one-off. Justgiving reclaims Gift Aid automatically when you donate online.

Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, we get an extra 28 pence from HM Revenue & Customs, helping your donation go further. This means that £10 can be turned into £12.80 at no cost to you. Online donors can select the Gift Aid option when making their donation.

Please remember that to qualify for Gift Aid, what you pay in income tax or capital gains tax must at least equal the amount we will claim in the tax year. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim further tax relief via your Self Assessment tax return.
