Welcome to this issue of Taking Action.

Education for Health is celebrating 20 years of pioneering primary care education this year. Learn more about our journey, the people we wish to thank for their contribution to the success of our Charity over the years. Come and join us in our celebrations - read all about it in our feature article 'We're 20 and here's our story'.

Our e-Newsletter is published quarterly, it will focus on topical, personal and professional development related issues and we hope you find it both enjoyable and informative.  It will highlight our work, both nationally and internationally, and let you know how you can get involved. It is a very exciting year for Education for Health because we are celebrating a big milestone in the development of the Charity.  Learn more about our journey from past to present as we celebrate twenty years of pioneering education in primary care.

Professor Bryan Stoten - PCT Chairman, Health Service academic and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, sums up our impact: "I think Education for Health is going to deliver the White Paper.  If we’re serious about getting domiciliary care and community nursing care right, we’ll have to invest in training.  I think the future for this sort of training, particularly distance learning training, is very strong indeed.”…

New RCT evidence clearly shows nurse education improves patient health

We are delighted to report the publication of a landmark study which links health professionals’ attendance on an accredited educational module to improve patients’ quality of life.  200 patients took part in this community based randomised controlled trial – find out more…

Case Study: Improving Asthma Care in Scotland

Guest Writer: Janette Barrie, NHS Quality Improvement Scotland

In Scotland, almost 4,000 people are diagnosed with Asthma, with about 197,000 experiencing severe asthma symptoms.  NHS Quality Improvement Scotland is working in partnership with the Scottish Executive Health Department, Asthma UK and Education for Health to improve the health and well being of people living with asthma.  One of the aims of this partnership is to make available Personal Asthma Action Plans for adults and children throughout Scotland.  The focus of this project is to empower people with asthma to self manage their condition in order to improve their quality of life…

CFC inhaler devices – what’s new?

Update Report: Trisha Weller

Inhaler devices containing the propellant CFC are being gradually phased out because of the recognised effects on the environment and the protective ozone level.  This was agreed internationally with the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1985 (coming into effect in 1989).  This treaty has had a number of revisions but its widespread adoption and implementation has been hailed as ‘an exceptional international cooperation’…
