Managing a long term condition needs expertise, both the expertise of the trained health professional and, crucially, the expertise of the individual patient. It has been clearly demonstrated that good communication is central to good healthcare, and when patients and health professionals work together, the results can be life-changing.

Aim of short course

This interactive one day short course introduces participants to the core skills of a concordant consultation, and provides opportunities to discuss and develop techniques for supporting patients in shared decision making.

Short course objectives

Those attending the short course will gain basic knowledge and practical skills in the following areas:

Active listening and non-verbal attentiveness
Reaching a shared understanding
Goal setting, importance and self-efficacy
Shared decision making

One training day with informal lectures and interactive practical sessions.
