Reading and Understanding Research Papers: Short Course

During the course of their everyday professional lives, health professionals are increasingly required to make evidence-based diagnostic, prescribing and/or management decisions. The availability of information about healthcare has expanded rapidly over the past decade or so, and clinical research studies are continually identifying ways of providing the best possible care for patients.

Aim of short course

This basic course is designed to provide basic skills in finding, reading and interpreting research papers and is suitable for all healthcare professionals and any one involved or with an interest in reading research. The course enables you to understand the trustworthiness of research findings and the limitations evidence can have and the reasons why they may be limited.

The course will also help you to understand the relevance of evidence findings and how they relate to clinical practice.
