Why is Tuberculosis important?
- Around 8000 new cases of TB are currently reported each year in the UK with most cases occurring in major cities
- The majority (61%) of cases occurred in young adults aged 15 - 44
- 72% of cases occurred in the non - UK born population, primarily those born in South Asia and sub Saharan Africa
- London accounted for the largest proportion of cases (40%) and had the highest TB rate overall (44.8 pr 100,000) followed by the West Midlands.
What does this module offer?
This course is for nurses who care for patients with, or who are at risk of TB in practice or in the community
Studying for Education for Health’s Tuberculosis module will enable you to confidently detect Tuberculosis at the earliest stage and will give you the knowledge and experience to effectively care for patients with TB.

This module will give you the knowledge and skills to:
- Analyse the prevalence and causes of TB and evaluate preventative measures
- Assess the effects of TB on the respiratory tract and other systems
- Select and justify methods for diagnosis
- Assess treatment options
- Analyse factors in good nursing care
- Examine the roles of clinical audit, clinical governance and public health issues
This distance learning course will take 4 months to complete and is delivered through comprehensive written materials.
