Suitable for

Respiratory disease is a major cause of hospital admissions for children. This module will be of interest to hospital based nurses working within paediatrics, or respiratory nurses with a special interest in children. Students will develop a broad understanding of the common paediatric respiratory conditions to enable them to deliver effective patient care.

Pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and management of:

Asthma
Cystic fibrosis
Croup
Brochiolitis
Pertussis
Pneumonia
TB
HIV
Chronic lung disease of prematurity

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module, you will be able to:

Define common childhood respiratory infections
Examine the principal issues in the diagnosis, treatment and management of paediatric respiratory disease
Analyse the critical issues in history-taking
Examine the nursing management appropriate for patients with a specified disease
Recommend appropriate treatment options
