Diabesity: Short Course
(Locally Delivered)
This course was developed for prison nurses in Leicester in July 2008 after it was noted an increase in the number of inmates with diabetes. .
Aim of short course
This course provides staff with more understanding and insight of the impact of the disease from a patient perspective but also to develop practical skills.
Short course programme
- Weighing up the problem - an interactive session on the implications of obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and increased cardiovascular risk for the individual, the family and society
- Improving consultation skills - explaining the concept of risk and helping people to change risky behaviours
- The role of diet, exercise, pills and bariatrics in weight management, diabetes and cardiovascular risk
- Case studies
- Review of the day.
Duration and format
One training day with informal lectures and interactive practical sessions.
