This course is for experienced nurses caring for patients with respiratory diseases
Develop your skills and knowledge in the field of respiratory disease by conducting an extended literature review and producing a written account for this. You will be encouraged to develop integrative skills so that you can use knowledge and skills gained from previous modules. You will also have the opportunity to reflect on and improve your in your clinical practice.
By the end of the module you will be able to:
- Formulate and conduct an extended literature review
- Select appropriate search methods and provide justification for this selection
- Apply an evidence-based practice approach
- Present the results of your search in a clear, appropriate and structured wa
You will also be able to apply the following key skills:
- The ability to carry out an extended literature review
- Effective communication – the ability to present material to a good standard and to put concepts and findings across accurately and clearly
- Numeracy - the ability to seek, handle, present and interpret numerical data
- Use of relevant forms of Information Technology
- Ability to learn independently and to transfer and apply knowledge
This course is delivered through a comprehensive written workbook. The workbook is divided into units, covering different subject areas, and contains a recommended reading list. The written materials are supported by face to face teaching sessions made up of informal lectures delivered by experts in this area.
The subjects covered in the workbook include:
- guidance on conducting an extended literature review
- search methods
- reading scientific papers
- presentation including effective communication, interpreting and presenting numerical data
This is an 8 month module. Students are expected to carry out their own research, supported by a supervisor and the relevant module leader.
