CVD for Social Care Staff: Short Course

This course was commissioned by Leicester City Council for their Adult Social Care Team, alongside the Asthma/Breathlessness course, both of which were very successful as half day courses. A new course has been developed for Jan 2009 - providing more understanding of how they can help their clients, an overview of CVD and what the disease is, who is at risk, impact on the carers and interface with healthcare.

This one day workshop provides an introduction and overview of CVD to staff working in a social care setting.
This one day workshop is aimed at staff working in a social care setting and will provide them with an overview of the most common causes of CVD, common pharmacological and non pharmacological methods for treating CVD and the impact of CVD on the individual and their families/carers. This workshop includes information on the following topics:
This workshop will cover the following areas:
- An overview of cardiovascular disease (CVD) - what is it, who gets it and why?
- The risk factors for cardiovascular disease – how can we reduce ‘risk’?
- Treatment options for CVD – drug therapies and lifestyle
- Impact of CVD on the individual and their families and carers
- Cardiovascular emergencies – how to respond (includes advice on giving GTN spray and when to dial 999
This is a one day workshop with informal teaching and interactive practical sessions, delivered by practicing expert clinicians.
